Platte Heritage Club
The Platte Heritage Club serves as the keeper of the records and stories for the Platte area. The Club was founded in 1980 and helped produce the book that represents the history: The Epic of the Exodus by Adeline Gnirk, 1986, with a separate, complete every last name index available.
Housed in the back of the Platte Library, the club maintains an obituary file from 1915 to present. There are also cemetery listings for each of the cemeteries in northern Charles Mix County. The Club has provided identification and directional signs for each of the cemeteries to make finding graves much easier. While there is an old microfilm reader available at the library, it does not print copies. The Club does own microfilm of funeral home records, Ward Academy and church records, early area newspapers and census records 1870 to 1920. Many other local family histories have been given to the Club, as well as Platte High School Et-talpians and scrapbooks of local interest.
If you are interested in finding more information about your family that lived in the Platte area, please contact Club President, Becky Erickson at (605) 337-2594 or send an email to email@example.com. We will be happy to help you.
