Platte, South Dakota is an attractive and peaceful community of 1,400 residents located a few miles east of the beautiful Lake Francis Case/Missouri River.

Platte was named after Platte Creek, which was named for Bernard Pratte, an early fur trader. The last name Pratte was mistakenly transcribed on the map as Platte, as it is known today.

Platte offers a friendly family environment, an excellent educational system, many recreational opportunities and a town government which is responsive to the needs of its citizens.
